The Local Planning Authorities will seek to safeguard for appropriate waste management purposes:

  • sites where permanent permission is granted for the establishment of waste treatment, recycling, storage and transfer facilities which are considered to be essential to the achievement of the objectives of the Waste Management Plan;
  • new sites approved for mineral extraction in accordance with the provisions of the Replacement Minerals Local Plan (in addition to the Preferred Areas identified in that Plan) where landfilling would form an acceptable and appropriate means of restoring the mineral working and which are suitable in technical and planning terms for engineered landfill;
  • for inert waste landfill, the sites listed in Appendix 8A, except for the sites with planning permission which are judged unlikely to be implemented;
  • for non-inert waste landfill, the sites listed in Appendix 8B; and
  • the Preferred Areas identified in this Plan.
