RA9 Cemeteries and Memorial Gardens

Proposals for cemeteries, memorial gardens and sites for woodland and green burials may be permitted within the Green Belt only where:

  • The site uses the existing landform and does not require recontouring of the landscape;
  • The design of the site respects the character of the surrounding landscape, and appropriate landscaping and screening is provided to preserve the openness of the Green Belt and to prevent long views into the site;
  • The site is well located in relation to the road network, public transport links and near to existing settlements;
  • Associated buildings and memorial stones are small scale and unobtrusive.
