HE 1 Historic Environment
The historic environment will be conserved and enhanced in a manner appropriate to its significance. Development proposals would be required to demonstrate how they preserve or enhance the character, appearance and function of heritage assets (whether designated or non-designated) and their settings, and respect the significance of the historic environment.
Heritageassetsareanirreplaceableresourceand works which wouldcauseharm tothesignificance of a heritage asset (whether designated or non-designated) or its setting, will not be permitted without a clear justification in accordance with legislation and national policy
The loss of heritage assets will be resisted. Where this is proven not to be possible, recording in accordance with best practice will be required
Applications for works within archaeologically sensitive areas will be required to include a desk-top archaeological assessment.
Applications for works to heritage assets will only be considered if accompanied by a heritage statement which includes an assessment of significance, a heritage impact assessment and, where appropriate, information on marketing and viability.
